About Me Greetings! I'm Ulfar, leader of the Svartland Viking group from England. I have been involved in Viking-age Early Medieval re-enactment for a number of years. In early 2006 my wife Svana and I formed the Svartland group, enlisting a number of friends. We normally base ourselves around the year 950, influenced by the events in Jorvik at that time. We do, however, go outside that time frame and can cover from around 750 to 1250 or so if we want.

New season approaches

Greetings, all!

Svartland and I are frantically preparing for the new season at present. Our diary is already pretty full, with the possibility of adding only four more events between April and October, and we haven't been invited to any other group's shows as yet, so those few gaps will no doubt be filled soon.

We have a training weekend in early April, then our first event is History Fair II on 3-5 May. The web site is at http://www.historyfair.co.uk/

Last weekend, Svartland participated in the Call to Arms History Fair at Rockingham castle. It was organised by the quite mad Duke Henry and was simply a wonderful experience.

For everyone apart from Svana and I, this was their first experience of a large, multi-period event. It gave our warriors their first taste of a "real" battle with a large number of combatants and they did very well.

We were fortunate enough to meet some really nice, genuine, generous people (especially Clan Wulfhar) and had a great time in the four days we were there (Friday to Monday).

The Dark Ages encampment was quite large and besides Svartland included participants from Clan Wulfhar, Dal Raida Vikings, Vikings of Middle England, Fingal Living History Society, Regia Anglorum and a few others besides.
